Roomology: Mini bar With Exotic Touches
Roomology – A series where I break a room down into different elements. Analyze along with me and learn to look at interiors in a new way! As is often the case, I fell for a bright and airy room with light gray walls. What a great spot for a mini bar, don’t you think? I honestly don’t drink very often, so I’d have no use for a bar area in my house, but I do love the idea of it. Come to think of it, in my house this probably would be stocked with an espresso machines & good quality coffees & teas. Now we’re talking! However, with or without the bar, this is one pretty nook!
Patterns: The zebra pattern really catches you eye in this photo and the pattern on the tortoise shell is more subtle but matches brilliantly. I also really love the brick pattern on the rug, it’s subtle because it’s gray and white but definitely adds modern graphic interest to the room.
Textures: There are a lot of smooth and shiny textures going on, which add to the subtly glamorous feel of the space. There are the glass bottles and drinking glasses, the glass lighting fixture (at least I think it’s glass), the picture frame and the shiny silver of the cart. I just love how the large tortoise shell is added to that, not just for how it looks, but also for the natural texture it adds to the room.
Colors: The color palette is subdued – gray, white, black, brown & gold, and the only colors added to that are green from the bottles and orange-yellow from packaging (I think?). So soothing and the bit of color adds interest.
Lighting: As far as I’m concerned, there are many rooms in which a butterfly lighting fixture would look a bit odd, but here it somehow adds the perfect playful touch.
Moldings: Those crown moldings are so beautiful, don’t you think? I think crown moldings like these one of my favorite architectural features that a room can have.
Ornamentation: That tortoise shell adds such a beautiful organic shape & color to the room.
Furniture: I love those built-in cabinets. The cart is the most elaborate thing in the room and plays nicely with the classic moldings and cabinets. The zebra stool adds the perfect exotic touch together with the tortoise shell & butterfly lamp.

Love the mini bar, but I had no idea that was a tortoise shell until you told me. To me it kind of throws the rest of the room off.
Also love that floor pattern.
I love the chair rail and white base of the wall. I can’t tell if there is picture frame moulding on the wall but it looks like it. I love how it really lightens the room.
I love that touch of navy in the lampshade, you almost don’t realize it’s there. I’m with Jessica on the shell though, it throws the room off a little for me too (though I’ve never been a fan of any large animal objects on the walls, like the antlers that seem to be so popular these days). I love the paint color of the wall.
I have to admit that I am not crazy about this space. I do like the drink cart, but the butterfly pendant and turtle shell are too much for me.
A huge tea bar sounds AWESOME. Think of all the cool mugs that you can buy to stock the bar with.
I also have to say, I find myself disagreeing about the the butterfly lighting, but I really do like the tortoise shell (which, I agree with Jessica, I never would have known that was a tortoise shell…) – definitely an interesting room to take a look at this week!
