5 Things I love about Kate Spade’s House

December 5, 2011

You’d expect Kate Spade‘s house to be colorful, stylish, fun and quirky and it does not disappoint. Her house was recently featured in Matchbook and I can’t stop thinking about it since I read the article. Here are 5 of the things that I like about it:

1. Books books everywhere…
Her bookcases are not styled neatly, the are stacked to the brims with books. Her coffee table is covered in stacks of books too. For anyone who likes to read, adding favorite reading materials to your decor can be such an easy way to incorporate something you love into your decor!

2. A mix of different types of vintage sofas, chairs and settees. Nothing is matchy, matchy yet it all works together.

3. Fun wallpaper in a narrow hallway. The green stripes take this from hallway to an experience in its own right.

4. A mixture of light and dark neutrals, light colors, muted colors and bright hues. It’s a colorful house, but not overwhelming because the bright colors are used as accents against a backdrop of neutrals, muted colors (like the rugs) and light colors (light blue and gray on the walls).

5. Lots of personality with lots of classic elements. I love the classic elements in this house, like a black and white checkered floor, hardwood herringbone floor, classic furniture and stripes. And with bright color, a mix of patterns, lots of art work and books added, this makes for a very personal home. Not a home that would suit every person and family but one that is exactly right for the family living in it and that expresses who they are.

I really hope your week has started off well so far!
