Week 2: Clear Clutter & Identify Intentions // Day 9: Work With What You Have

October 9, 2011

Sometimes you really just gotta work with what you have. I liked this space so much better without the clutter, but one other thing I really disliked was the crappy carpet.

I had picked at the sides for a while and knew it would come off easily. However, I had wanted to wait until we could afford to replace it before I tore it out.

I decided to just get rid of it though…We’ll have to replace the sub-floor anyway, because it’s degenerated in places, so I’ll just paint and seal it for now. Ideal it is not, but I know hope I’ll like it better for now than looking at the bad carpet.

I moved the mat so we could use it as a welcoming mat.

Halo came to check it out…

and declared it good enough to sleep on.

If you find that you are stopping yourself from making a space pretty because you can’t do what you want to do, try asking yourself if there’s a way to make it work for now. You might be surprised at the possibilities you begin to see!

PS. If you’re in Canada like me: Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you were able to enjoy a turkey and family time!
As for us, we went to church, visited a Thanksgiving Festival and had chicken (anything poultry-like counts as far as I’m concerned!) with family. We also had the most perfect October weather and really couldn’t have asked for more!

Just clicked over via The Nester and started at the beginning of your series… it’s going great! You have me eyeballing my (tiny) entryway from where I sit surfing your blog, lol.
I like this advice you gave:
“If you find that you are stopping yourself from making a space pretty because you can’t do what you want to do, try asking yourself if there’s a way to make it work for now. You might be surprised at the possibilities you begin to see!”
It has had to be my motto, as budget for home decorating is almost always at “zero.” So most cases my “for now” becomes my “for always” but without at least attacking a space “for now” it’d never be decorated! :)
