Week 1: Create a Vision // Day 5: Wall

October 5, 2011

Home should enable people to be more private and public, to have more sun, to hang more things on the wall, to have different spaces,” (…) “Home should be more of an enrichment, because it now plays a very large part in our lives.”

—Donlyn Lyndon, quoted by Winifred Gallagher in House Thinking

The walls of our entry exist partly of painted brick, but two of the walls are partly made with faux brick (and the difference is quite obvious). I’d like to replace the faux brick with drywall, but that is beyond the scope of both this project and our budget right now. So, I thought why not have some fun with it in the meantime?

I could draw funky frames on it with a sharpie…

Wallpaper it with newspaper…

Paint trees on it – they wouldn’t come out as nicely as this wallpaper is, but I could still give it a try…

I am quite excited about adding a bit of whimsy to the entry to be honest.

I like how in the quote at the beginning of this post, the word ‘enrichment’ is used – this can be done with textures and materials, but also with colors and adding pattern…In my case, adding a touch of whimsy makes my heart smile. For some, it may be too much, but the fun thing is that you get to decide.

I love both rooms and their whimsical style. What ever you do I am sure it will look beautiful! I say go for it!

Oh and by the way, I was trying to leave a comment the other day via my iPad and it was acting up and it wouldn’t let me leave a comment. So I wanted to tell you congratulations on the wine stomping competition. You guys rocked it! And it looked like so much fun!
