Celebrating 7 Years of Marriage

June 19, 2011

We celebrated by…

Updating our Facebook statuses:

(FYI: Jedidjah is my real/Dutch name – many people have a hard time pronouncing & remembering it, so I go by Jadyn in daily life)

We went out for lunch to The Mandarin, an all-you-can-eat buffet style restaurant, and ate until our tummies hurt.

For the rest of the day, we had planned some creative time, which was inspired by a lovely couple whom we happen to have an anniversary date in common with. The blogging half of this couple, Astrid from RedRedCompletelyRed, never fails to inspire me with her creations and she came up with the idea to paint plates for their anniversary. We followed suit, since we have a stack of white plates in our basement so all we needed was some paint & inspiration!

And this is how we ended up hunched over the kitchen table for part of the day, painting our little hearts out.

With loyal Halo at our feet.

And here are the final results! We plan to hang them up as a collage on our kitchen wall. As you can see, we worked in the countries that have been significant in our relationship:

The Union Jack – We got engaged in England (and Ben is from there).

The Dutch flag – We met and got married in Holland (and I’m from there).

The Maple Leaf – for Canada, where we live!

We really had a lot of fun painting together.

We ended the day with watching a few episodes of Modern family together and taking some (more) photos of each other to remember the day by.

I am one of those people who is inordinately proud of my thrift store finds, which the skirt and the top both are. I’d never worn them together before, but was pretty happy with how it turned out! Yay for outfits that you feel happy in!

Ben even smiled in a photo! It helped that he made a face right before that, though.

Silliness, I tell ya.

Wishing you a great weekend!

Wow, they turned out amazingly! So glad you had fun doing it. I bet this’ll look lovely up on the wall. Maybe next year we’ll be inspired by YOU and do some flags for our collection :) Hope you had a great anniversary!
