Project: Bulletin Board

After writing last week about feeling stuck with my little projects-on-the-go, I felt so much better and ready to get some of them finished. So thanks for bearing with me while I continue to post unfinished things! Okay, so here’s the first one:

The inspiration:

This image from British designer Jimmie Karlsson’s home led me to purchase this:

It started off gold colored, but I forgot to take a picture of it before spray-painting it white. After spraying it white, I added blue paint to part of the frame.

Side note: The above two images were taken for an assignment of the Unravelling e-course I took earlier this year – hence the white shoes and slightly odd placement (since you can’t actually see the whole frame). They’re the only photos I took of the frame in progress though…

I decided on pink and blue because of the Marie Antoinette color scheme. Here’s where I needed Ben’s help. I wanted the paint to be graduated like in the photo, but I have zero skills in that department. Ben is actually a really good painter. He made this when we were playing Evanescence non-stop – which pretty much seems like a lifetime ago now:

Pretty good, huh? You can see where his skills would come in handy! He helped me achieve this:

And that’s where it’s been at for months now, because I moved on to painting furniture and never finished it. As you can see, the blue still needs to be graduated so it will blend in more with the white. Then I need to add cork board in the middle so I can use it as a bulletin board. Originally, I wanted to paint the cork board white, but now I’m thinking of putting white fabric on top instead.

I personally love the baroque, antique-looking shape of the mirror combined with the airbrushed paint which reminds me a bit of graffiti. In my mind it goes really well with the Marie Antoinette movie, which was a mix of history with a modern treatment. However, I know this look is probably not for everyone. What do you think? Yea or nay?
Since it is my study room, I figured I should go with whatever I liked though, so there it is. Hopefully, I can show the finished product up on the wall soon!
